Messi Tevez farewell plans have received a major boost after former Argentina international Carlos Tevez confirmed that Lionel Messi will feature in his testimonial match at La Bombonera on December 20, while Cristiano Ronaldo’s participation remains uncertain. Even though the former Boca Juniors striker has officially retired from professional football in 2021, he is getting ready to play one last game in the famous Buenos Aires stadium. In September, Tevez announced his walk-off and during a special episode of former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand’s podcast, he gave more details.
Ferdinand himself is also one of the guests at the event. The exhibition match will involve Boca Juniors versus a squad comprised by Tevez’s best friends, and will involve a host of football luminaries marking the occasion, the club’s president said. Both Messi and Boca Juniors president Juan Roman Riquelme are set to be in the game, the 42-year-old confirmed.
Tevez confirmed two big names for the event, naming “Messi and Riquelme” for the match. This means that former Argentina international and Boca legend Riquelme will be on the pitch and not just in the club president’s box. The inclusion of Messi brings a lot of attraction to the event as he has had a long association with the football of Argentina and has been in the team with Tevez in the past. Cristiano Ronaldo is also in the spotlight, but it remains to be seen if the Portuguese superstar will be in attendance or on the bench.
His potential presence would make the event even more captivating and of course, of greater interest. The December 20 match will be a chance for Tevez to showcase his career in front of his fans at La Bombonera, the stadium which has many of his footballing memories.
