Conte Appointment Could Worsen Man United Crisis

Former United assistant manager Rene Meulensteen has warned that the proposed Conte appointment at the North West side could provide short-term comfort for the club, but delays at Old Trafford were more serious.

The one after United’s 3-0 loss to Bournemouth, which further highlighted the club’s play and prompted questions about the future of United under Michael Carrick.

Bournemouth got their third win away from home, three times in four seasons, away at United, as Rayan, Marcus Tavernier and Evanilson hit them for three goals. It’s another poor night for the Red Devils, who are 16th in the Premier League and have accrued seven points from eight games, one point ahead of the relegation zone, according to the report supplied.

Former United manager Sir Alex Ferguson’s时期的player Meulensteen told talkSPORT that he’d oppose Conte replacing Carrick. He thinks that the Italian manager will be able to get some results initially but will have had difficulties in terms of stability in the long-term for the club due to his tough style of approach.

“If he improved early, it’s going to be gone very soon,” Meulensteen said, “I don’t want to be a supporter of that appointment at all.”

He also pointed out that the United ownership structure is not to blame for the club’s problems, it’s the manager. In his opinion, the ownership model has put the club in a downward spiral of underperformance.

Carrick, on the other hand, has suggested he’ll play as he would normally, despite the pressure at the club. After the loss at Bournemouth, he spoke of his love for the club and recognised the harsh times their players are currently in.

The prospects of a high-profile appointment for United’s future manager are not the only issue in the debate. Meulensteen’s remarks raise another issue: How much impact can a ‘change of coach’ have without addressing the structural problems he suspects are hampering the club?
