Son Heung-min joked that he was a Tottenham Hotspur ‘legend’ after they won the Europa League title by beating Manchester United 1-0 at the San Mamés Stadium on Wednesday.
After three heartbreaking finals, the 32-year-old South Korean attacker, who joined Spurs in 2015, won his first major prise at club and international level. Son celebrated and dubbed himself a legend after the match. He called himself the happiest guy in seventeen years because no one had done what he accomplished.
Imagine I’m a legend. Why not?” Son said. Seventeen years—nobody has done that, so I’m definitely a club legend with wonderful players.
“I’ve always wanted this. It happened today. The happiest man in the world.”
South Korean forward, who has 133 international caps, joined Spurs for £22 million from Bayer Leverkusen after scoring 29 goals in 87 games.
His 454th Tottenham appearance was a substitute in a 3-1 loss to Manchester United. Spurs lost the 2019 Champions League and 2021 Carabao Cup finals, while South Korea lost the 2015 Asian Cup final.
Heung-min said he felt pressure and wanted the win and trophy desperately.
“I felt the pressure,” Son remarked.
“I really wanted it. I dreamed about this game every night for seven days. It happened, therefore I can sleep well.”
