Debate on whether Mohamed Salah deserves to be benched in the recent games of the premier league has been raised by the unexpected bench time he has received in the latter games of Liverpool. Chelsea defender John Terry has come to the defense of the Egyptian superstar, blaming Liverpool manager Arne Slot with turning Salah into the scapegoat of the club whenever there is a lack of performance.
The disappointments of Salah were seen as the 3-3 league draw between Liverpool and Leeds United with the striker still sitting on the bench after three matches. Addressing the journalists, Salah stated, that I have done a lot to this club over the years and last season. It appears that the club has put me under the bus. Somebody wants me to have it all the blame!
John Terry came to the defence of Salah and said that it is not only the forward who has had a poor form. I believe he has been turned into the scapegoat somewhat. His Liverpool players as well as he have been out of form in the recent past, Terry said. The ex-Defender of Chelsea has doubted the choice taken by Slot to omit Salah even during critical times when Liverpool were on the losing side.
Salah has only gone out in the previous three matches in the Premier League and this is a very contrasting situation to what he had accomplished last season. His achievements in becoming the first in the league in goals and assists and his awards of the Player of the Year made history. Nevertheless, he has only four goals in all events this season.
Terry emphasized that Salah is the athlete who can alter the course of matches, as he said, “I want to bring someone on, 15-20 minutes, it has to be him. As Liverpool continue to experience pressure in the league, the constant controversy surrounding the treatment of Salah is an indication of the pressures that the team is undergoing in the hands of Slot. The fans and analysts are keenly following whether Salah will be able to recover his form and confidence in the next few weeks.
