On Friday, Ronaldo Al Nassr did not miss a shot as Cristiano Ronaldo netted the clinching goal in a 2-1 win over Al Taawoun in the Saudi Pro League. The 41-year-old Portugal international made his debut from the front and played a full game for Al Nassr to make it four straight league wins for them. Their outcome helped them maintain the leadership in the Saudi Pro League.
Al Nassr had to wrestle control of the game back from Al Taawoun in the 11th minute. Mohammed Bassam Al Hurayji scored to give the visitors the lead before the game was on Al Nassr’s shoulders.
The early defeat followed another gallant turnaround in just days against Al Ettifaq. Al Nassr had trailed 2-0 at the break of that game but went on to score three goals in the last 16 minutes to secure all three points.
In this one Ronaldo and his boys got the jump on the interval. The contest was levelled in the fifth minute of first half stoppage time, as Samu Costa hit the target to make the score 1-1.
Five minutes after half-time Ronaldo then turned things around. Joao Felix opened the scoring with a run down the left before putting in a cutback into the box. The ball threw itself at Mohamed Simakan who looked to play it to the bottom corner, but Ronaldo found the right time and distance to do the rest.
Ronaldo’s goal was initially hailed as a goal and replays indicated that Simakan’s shot could have been heading right at the goal, regardless. However, Ronaldo was given the goal. The strike brought Ronaldo’s terrific career haul to 978 goals, and reminded his followers of the impact he continues to have on Al Nassr.
Al Nassr are 4-4 with four league wins still to make and have made a perfect start to their season campaign, taking care of business from the very first game.
