Paris Saint-Germain secured a 3-1 victory over Le Mans on Saturday, with PSG vs Le Mans highlighting the French champions’ growing momentum ahead of their crucial UEFA Champions League trip to Manchester City next week.
Luis Enrique’s team won its third-straight match even though it rested a number of regular starters at the Parc des Princes. It was a positive development for PSG, who have had their struggles at the start of the season, and also prepared them for a tough challenge in Europe.
In the opening part of the game, Centre-back Lucas Beraldo netted from the spot to give the home side the lead. But Le Mans came back after the interval; nine minutes into the second half, Louis Mafouta put the game back on as he levelled with Louis’s second half goal.
PSG’s reply was from substitute Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, who had been on the bench during the opening half. The Georgian winger had to wait only two minutes to make his mark, setting up PSG’s unbeatable form in the 61st minute with an unbeatable finish to boot.
Maghnes Akliouche then consolidated the home side’s lead seven minutes later, finding the back of the net to make PSG’s score 3-1. The PSG forwards’ ability to play freely proved more effective as the goals came in quick succession.
The win catapulted PSG into fifth place in the league table as it bids for success in its home season.
Now it’s a Champions League clash with Manchester City that will be of interest on Wednesday. Enrique’s side will head into Europe’s largest club competition with a much tougher task, as they come in with their winning ways.
