Olympique de Marseille secured a crucial 2-0 victory over Troyes on Sunday, with second-half goals from Amine Harit and Himad Abdelli ending a five-match losing streak and lifting the former European champions out of the Ligue 1 relegation zone. Harit broke the deadlock five minutes after half-time with a well executed shot from the edge of the box in the 50th minute, off the cross from Emerson.
The midfielder, who had been sent out on loan to Turkish club Trabzonspor, is the only one to have done that in a game where points were all-important. Abdelli would then go for his first goal for the club with the final kick of the game after it was a penalty seven minutes into stoppage-time. It was the first win for Marseille in two games in Ligue 1 this season, as the club is struggling financially and cannot afford to make as many changes as they would like to the team. Now, Marseille will focus on a Europa League match at Olympiakos on Thursday. Troyes were beaten again in their bottom four position in the league for the fourth straight time and their promoted team is in danger of dropping to the bottom two.
Elsewhere, Rennes rallied from a 4-0 loss at Lyon to have won 4-1 at Auxerre. The outcome saw Rennes climb to third position, just behind Monaco, who were in the lead. Esteban Lepaul struck the first blow with a volley in the 15th minute, before Cameron Archer levelled the score with Auxerre. It was a great beginning, with Archer adding to his impressive start by becoming the seventh player in Ligue 1 history to score in his first four games.
