Manager Steve McClaren was forced to add another injury concern as midfielder, Carlos Baleba’s hamstring issue is going to keep him out for a few weeks at Manchester United. The Cameroon international picked up the injury during United’s 3-2 comeback victory over AS Roma in the Champions League on Tuesday. Baleba was forced from the field after a fantastic attacking move, just after the first half.
The midfielder had a great run into Roma’s box and looked set to score only to pull up at the last moment and grab the back of his leg. He was then replaced by a member of the medical staff and then later on Youri Tielemans replaced him. Carrick said in his pre-match press conference on Friday that they were still working out the precise nature of the injury, but that Baleba would be unavailable for a few games. We don’t know exactly [the severity] but it’ll be another couple of weeks, Carrick said.
Well, it will be a bit longer until after the international break, definitely not this week. The midfielder has been 7 times in the first 14 games since his summer move from Brighton and Hove Albion to the Red Devils. Carrick also gave an update on left-back Patrick Dorgu, who has been able to come back to training after a hamstring issue. But the defender is still uncertain for Premier League’s clash with Aston Villa on Sunday.
Manchester United are in a challenging time to begin with, and the injury to the centre of their midfield conundrum comes at a time of nerves. The club sit in 17th place in the Premier League table with seven points from nine games and just a point on their own side.
