Ronaldo Jr Portugal selection has marked another important milestone in the teenager’s football development, with Cristiano Ronaldo’s eldest son earning his first call-up to the country’s Under-17 national team.
The 16-year-old has been called up for Portugal’s three November European Championship qualification games. The 16-year-old has been added to Portugal’s squad for their three European Championship qualifying matches in November. As the young forward progresses through the national youth system he will have another chance to represent his country at a different age grade.
Portugal will play against Andorra on November 11, Bulgaria on November 14 and Serbia on November 17. The matches will be a crucial test for the young team, who will be chasing qualification goals.
Ronaldo Jr. already has international experience having played five goals in 13 appearances with the Portuguese Under-15 and Under-16 teams. This latest pick is a continuation of his efforts to make a mark in the nation’s youth football system. In his club career, the teen has been nurtured by Al Nassr in Saudi Arabia, with his father still playing for the senior squad.
His development has also raised the prospect of him and his father being together on the pitch in the future. Earlier this year, Ronaldo Jr was reportedly looking at a chance to play with Al Nassr’s seniors, but it seems it will likely be a bit longer before he breaks out for the club.
Before ending his professional career Cristiano Ronaldo has also voiced his desire to play with his son. While the five-time Ballon d’Or winner admits it would appeal to him, it’s not a factor that keeps him awake at night, he revealed in a chat with Edu Aguirre.
