Phil Foden, who has been in a good patch of form, has found his best form once more in a recent stretch of games that has no doubt added to his confidence ahead of Wednesday’s UEFA Champions League clash with RB Leipzig, the Manchester City midfielder believes.
The England international is set to make a comeback to the form that saw him become one of the Premier League’s best performers last season. That was Foden’s career year and he went on to tally 27 goals in all competitions and win Premier League Player of the Season and PFA Player of the Year.
But it was difficult to keep up the caliber. His form was poor after that and the midfielder was dropped from England’s squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. But, recent on-field displays indicate that the 26-year-old is starting to make some progress.
I’d like to get back to that level I suppose,” Foden said. I guess with my last few shows I’m starting to get back there. His progress has been apparent from his performances up front. Foden re-joined the Premier League side after being sent off for the Manchester derby, but opened his scoring account last month for Ipswich Town.
He then followed up with a superb display against AEK Athens, picking up the hat trick and the assist in Manchester City’s emphatic 5-1 Champions League win. Foden also recognised the break as helping him to get back into his physical form and mental state.
He explained, “I think it was a very fresh mind and sharp, definitely getting back into a routine and goals. The next challenge for City will be against Leipzig, and the 27-year-old Foden will want to continue his rise in form and prove his return to the top of the form is no flash in the pan.
