According to sources, Pakistan Football Federation (PFF) president Mohsen Gillani met with La Liga’s head of football department, Juan Florit Zapata, to discuss football growth in the country.
Sources say the conference in Spain centred on restarting Pakistan’s local football league, with La Liga helping establish the framework. Youth team development, women’s football, and local coach mentorship were all discussed.
“Talks were extremely productive and centred on long-term collaboration,” one person told the Geo on condition of anonymity because he was not permitted to comment.
“LaLiga has shown immense interest in Pakistan and offered to launch a landmark project soon.”
Pakistani stakeholders have long wanted the Pakistan Football League revived due to its lack of structure and international exposure. La Liga’s involvement might boost domestic competitions’ professionalism, technical expertise, and visibility, according to PFF executives.
The sources noted that La Liga’s possible relationship with PFF may enable grassroots development, talent identification, and coach and referee capacity building.
“This is not just about one project; it’s about building a sustainable system for football in Pakistan,” the insider stated.
La Liga, a top football league, has worked with various Asian and African federations to improve grassroots initiatives. Pakistan’s desire to rejoin the global football community would benefit from its interest.
