Dortmund Part Ways with Coach Sahin Amid Losing Streak

After six months on the job, Borussia Dortmund fearlessly let Nuri Sahin go. The squad’s fourth consecutive loss across all competitions—a 2-1 Champions League defeat to Bologna on Tuesday—led to the decision. The troubled team’s future is uncertain in light of this unexpected development.

After Edin Terzic stepped down as manager, Sahin assumed the reins with great expectations but was ultimately unsuccessful. After losing all three games in 2025, Dortmund, who were finalists in the Champions League last year, dropped to 10th place in the Bundesliga. The loss of Europe’s premier club championship ratcheted up the pressure.

The decision, according to Dortmund GM Lars Ricken, was tough but essential given the team’s dismal form (with one win in nine games). Former player and youth product Sahin made a triumphant comeback to the club in 2024, this time as an assistant coach, before eventually becoming the helm. Despite being extended until 2027, his contract ended early.

We shall soon know who will be leading Dortmund’s attack against Werder Bremen.
