Paris Saint-Germain staged a late recovery to secure a 3-1 victory over Strasbourg, with Dembele comeback heroics helping the reigning French champions climb to the top of the Ligue 1 table on Saturday.
PSG’s first encounter with a Premier League deficit came when the United States international Giovanni Reyna scored the opener at the Stade de la Meinau in the 17th minute. Reyna picked up a pass from Gessime Yassine and turned and beat Matvey Safonov before his near post.
Last year Ballon d’Or winner, Ousmane Dembele, was brought on as head coach Luis Enrique freshened his team after a tough win at Manchester City in the Champions League. But his introduction was pivotal in the dying moments of the match.
The opportunity came in the 72nd minute when VAR confirmed that Desire Doue had handled his own. However, Dembele was given a chance to equalise from the penalty spot after VAR confirmed that Desire Doue had handled his own. The forward, who scored a penalty in PSG’s Champions League final triumph over Arsenal in May, sent his attempt wide.
Following the defeat, he bounced back in the 78th minute with a cross to give Ukrainian defender Illia Zabarnyi the lead back in the game. However, Dembele was able to take control of the ball just outside the box and blast PSG ahead five minutes before the final whistle.
The French international also assisted Doue in the third goal, during stoppage time, helping him build the comeback to get three important points.
A win that maintained PSG’s unbeaten streak in four successive Ligue 1 games and six in all competitions. They had settled 14 points in seven league matches, and after that, they had overtaken Lille and Monaco on goals scored, but Monaco had yet a match to play.
