Brentford beat Manchester United 4-3 at the Gtech Community Stadium on Sunday in the Premier League. Mason Mount handed United an early lead, but the hosts replied soon. Kevin Schade’s header put the Bees ahead before halftime after Luke Shaw’s own goal levelled Brentford. The German winger scored twice after halftime, becoming Brentford’s third player to reach double figures in league goals this season.
United were frustrated when play continued after defender Matthijs de Ligt was hurt before Brentford’s third goal. Twenty minutes from time, Schade headed home Bryan Mbeumo’s cross from close range, seemingly putting United out of the game.
Brentford wasn’t finished yet, though. A fluid assault saw Michael Kayode pass through United’s defence to Yoane Wissa, who calmly scored Brentford’s fourth goal.
After the match, United manager Rúben Amorim voiced concern about De Ligt’s.
I’m worried—not about Thursday. The Portuguese coach stated, “I’m more concerned about whether De Ligt’s injury is minor or serious, especially looking ahead to next season. We took Luke Shaw off at halftime to protect him and have players fit for Thursday.”
A month left in the competition, and European qualification is still up for grabs. Depending on the results of the FA Cup, Europa League, Champions League, and the Premier League itself, up to ten English clubs could earn seats in Europe.
