Barcelona continued their remarkable Barcelona beat Betis winning run on Saturday, defeating Real Betis 5-2 in Seville to claim a ninth consecutive LaLiga victory and strengthen their position at the top of the standings. Lamine Yamal took the lead with a great individual effort and then Gabriel Jesus, Rodri, Eric Garcia and substitute Dani Olmo extended the lead. Real Betis had to face Barcelona’s attack strength alone on several occasions in the second half, but they failed to put a lid on it through the efforts of Valentin Gomez and Ez Abde.
Barcelona had won their last match and now had a record of nine victories, to move them to 27 points, five points clear of Atletico Madrid who won 1-0 against Espanyol. Third-placed Betis had 19 points, while Real Madrid were 18 ahead and ahead of Sevilla on 18 on Sunday. The visitors took the lead in the 10th minute when Yamal came on from the right and curled a mighty shot from the edge of the box, left-footed, into the top corner. Betis didn’t respond until the 27th minute.
Pablo Fornals picked up a rebound on the right and got up the field for a cross which Gomez beat Barcelona keeper Joan Garcia with his head above the defence. It was only a few minutes before half-time, however, when Spain captain Rodri found Fermin Lopez’ corner and powered a header into the net in the 41st minute. Eight changes were made by the hosts from the side that beat Porto 3-2 in the Champions League, while manager Manuel Pellegrini had left behind a number of regular starters prior to a midweek European match against Feyenoord.
