Gondomar SC, Diogo Jota and Andre Silva’s childhood club, dedicated their 2025/26 kit to the brothers who perished in a vehicle crash in Spain on July 3.
Fourth-tier Portuguese club Gondomar SC has placed photos of late Jota and Silva on their shirts and their names on the back under an infinity symbol. The club’s home, away, and third kits contain player photos and names. Campeonato de Portugal team Gondomar SC posted photos of their shirt on Instagram with the message, “More than a jersey, a tribute eternal.”
Football is about legacy, family, and love for our country, not just wins and goals.
“Diogo Jota and Andre Silva, two sons of Gondomar who left us too young but will live eternally in our club and football history, are featured on our new jersey.
“Every time our athletes put on this jersey, it’s like stepping on the field with them.”
Silva and Jota grew up in Gondomar, a Porto suburb.
Last month, Liverpool announced that its players will wear a ‘Forever 20’ logo on their shirts and stadium jackets in the Premier League.
In honor of Jota, Liverpool has retired his shirt No.20 across both men’s and women’s teams after consulting with his family. Liverpool’s 2024–25 Premier League title, 2022 FA Cup, and 2022 and 2024 League Cup wins were all helped by Diogo Jota. Jota played 49 international matches for Portugal.
