Germany’s coach, Jurgen Klopp, has vowed to bring a ‘Klopp Germany’ style – with more intensity and a new tactical look – to the UEFA Nations League as the four-time world champions start their campaign. But Klopp told supporters of Germany in a video on Monday ahead of the first game with the Netherlands on Thursday in Amsterdam that he was “the new one” and thanked them for their support.
“We will try everything to make our new approach visible. But I would like more sooner,” Klopp added. It could be somewhat crazy, but I’ll take that; it just has to be lively.”
The former Liverpool, Borussia Dortmund and Mainz coach has been left with a lot of leeway to make the changes in Germany since he replaced Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool in 2024.
His initial team highlighted the size of the shift. Klopp made 44 selections including 16 uncapped footballers and amongst the latter was Eintracht Frankfurt’s forward Younes Ebnoutalib, who emphasized the influence of the manager.
“When Klopp calls, you have to go. He brings a positive energy to him,” Ebnoutalib said, adding that he is one of the best coaches in the world.
Klopp’s first Nations League campaign will give a taste of what’s to come. The Netherlands debut their home identity after their first game at the Amsterdam match, against Germany on September 27 in Augsburg. They run four days later against Serbia, before heading to Thessaloniki for their first round of games.
Germany are faced with a big competition in the new era. They have only managed to win one knockout game since 2016 – in the World Cup or European Championships – adding to the significance of Klopp’s rebuilding campaign.
