The Lionel Messi Barcelona back has returned once again to be a headline with new remarks of Joan Laporta the leader of FC Barcelona.
Recently, Laporta gave his account on the future relations between the club and Lionel Messi after being re-elected Barcelona president. On TV3, Laporta announced that he will always have a home in the club and that he can leave the door of Barca open to the Argentine icon.
In 2021, Messi left Barcelona as unable to renew his contract due to financial problems that the club could face. The seven-time Ballon d Or winner thereupon signed with Paris Saint-Germain on a free transfer, before transferring to Inter Miami CF.
His early exit out of Barcelona brought to an end one of the most prosperous stages in the history of football. Messi earned the Barcelona club many trophies such as several league championships and wins in the champions league.
The association between Messi and Laporta was however reportedly poor following the abrupt departure. It was hoped that in 2023 fans would get a reunion that was not to be due to the lack of money and sporting plans.
Barcelo Laporta also had his reservations about releasing Messi at that time as it was also revealed by former Barcelona coach, Xavi Hernandez. The speculation then notwithstanding, the move never became a reality and Messi did end up playing in the United States.
The recent statements of Laporta are more docile. He stressed that Messi will never lose his affiliation to Barcelona in whichever way he wishes. Another aspect that the president emphasized was how important Messi was in the development of the club, its global identity and historic achievements.
