International media claimed on Sunday that striker Ademola Lookman has officially asked Atalanta to let him go after being treated badly at the Italian club.
Lookman scored 15 goals in Serie A last season, making him the second-highest scorer for Atalanta. Italian news reports say that the former Everton, Fulham, and Leicester City star is being linked to a move to Inter Milan.
Atalanta did not reply right away to an email asking for a remark. Lookman signed a four-year contract with Atalanta in 2022. He sent a statement on social media saying that he had an understanding with the club’s owners that he might leave if the perfect opportunity came along.
Lookman commented, “Even though I now have an offer that fits what I thought we had talked about, the club is blocking the chance for reasons I don’t understand.”
“After many months of broken promises and what I think has been bad treatment of me as a person and as a professional footballer, I sadly feel like I have to speak out…” I can confirm that I have now made a formal request to move.
The England born Nigeria international, Ademola Lookman, said in February that he had ‘dealt with many difficult moments’ at the Italian club after former coach Gian Piero Gasperini called him ‘one of the worst penalty takers’ he had ever seen over a missed spot-kick during a loss that eliminated them from the Champions League.
Lookman said that Gasperini’s words were “deeply disrespectful” and painful. Later, Gasperini said he hadn’t meant to offend Lookman. Atalanta, who came in third last season, will start their Serie A season at home against Pisa on August 24.
