Over the past ten years, teams like Chelsea, Tottenham, West Ham, and Aston Villa have increased their pay expenditures by more than three times, and Manchester United, Arsenal, and Liverpool have seen significant increases as well.

No club, not even the brand-new Manchester City, was paying its players an average salary of more than £100,000 in 2013–14. Ten years later, Manchester City, Manchester United, Chelsea, and Liverpool are the four clubs to reach that milestone.

In the 2013–14 season, Manchester United spent about 50,000 per week on average wages; clubs like Leicester, Crystal Palace, and Everton are paying their players more than that.

We’ve looked at the average earnings across every Premier League club over the last ten years according to Sporting Post, using wage data from Capology, and compared the 2022–23 figure to the same figure from ten seasons earlier.

In order to compare how the average earnings of the clubs that weren’t in the English top division in 2013–14 have changed over time, we went back and included the data from the season that was the farthest in the past.
