Spain vs France Sends Spain Final

Spain vs France delivered a decisive semi-final outcome as Spain defeated tournament favourites France 2-0 to secure a place in the FIFA World Cup final, overturning pre-match expectations with a tactically dominant display.

They were a controlled and structured Spanish approach from the start which neutralised France’s attacking depth and controlled the tempo of the match with going midfield dominance. It was a penalty from Mikel Oyarzabal in the opening half which gave the Germans the lead and paving the way for a disciplined Spanish display. The 58th minute saw Pedro Porro consolidate the advantage on the back of unbroken pressure and clinching a victory that was clinical Spain.

France started out as big favourites with Kylian Mbappe, Ousmane Dembele, Bradley Barcola and Michael Olise providing a potent attacking threat. But Spain’s compact defence and midfield dominance halted France’s momentum. Spain’s positional discipline and transitional control was holding the French back in their attempts to make quality chances.

The midfield battle won the game. With Fabian Ruiz and Dani Olmo to his back, Rodri defended himself against France’s central play and helped to create possession opportunities. Adrien Rabiot and Aurelien Tchouameni were regularly outnumbered, leaving little to no impact on the ball and little ball progression.

Spain’s win builds on their recent competitive form and bolsters their reputation as a structurally sound defence, capable of holding France to score.

With the victory, Spain moves on to the World Cup Final, where they’ll play against Argentina or England. The final will be played in New Jersey and Spain have a clear chance to win their second World Cup since the 2010 edition.
