Seven Bundesliga teams to play in European competition in 2023/24 . Next season, the Bundesliga will be represented in UEFA competition by Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund, RB Leipzig, Union Berlin, Freiburg, Bayer Leverkusen, and Eintracht Frankfurt.
Bayern’s victory in Bremen and Union’s and Freiburg’s losses on Matchday 31 ensured that they would play in the Champions League. They won their 11th straight Bundesliga title on a dramatic afternoon on the final day of the season, ensuring their position in Pot 1 when the group stage draw was announced. With a 2-1 victory in Cologne, Thomas Tuchel’s squad edged out Borussia Dortmund to win the Meisterschale. As a result, the Bavarians will spearhead Germany’s ascent into European football’s premier competition.
However, Dortmund’s real goal was to win the Meisterschale for the first time since 2011–12, when Jürgen Klopp led them to their second successive championship. Dortmund qualified for the Champions League for the 12th time in 13 seasons. Dortmund profited greatly from Leipzig’s massive favor to Die Schwarzgelben by defeating Bayern 3-1 on Matchday 33, and they went on to defeat Augsburg 3-0. The Black-and-Yellows, who were in first place in their division and appeared to be on the verge of winning the championship, could only draw Mainz 2-2 at home. Dortmund had to be content with second place after Bayern’s victory in Cologne.

After defeating Bayern, Leipzig was guaranteed entry for the Champions League for the sixth time in seven years. Just a few weeks prior, their hopes of making the competition appeared to be in doubt, but four straight wins—including victories over fellow competitors Union and Freiburg—put them in the driver’s seat, and the victory away at Bayern secured their qualification with one game left to play. They then successfully defended the DFB Cup to cap off a strong campaign.
