In Sunday’s 1-0 victory over Fulham, Ruben Amorim stated that he would rather to have a custodian coach on the bench rather than Marcus Rashford.
Rashford hasn’t played for United since mid-December after acknowledging he was ready for a new challenge in his career. He did not travel with the team for Sunday’s close victory in the Premier League. Despite his team’s struggles under Amorim, he has consistently demanded that his players give it their all.
“It’s always the same reason,” Ruben Amorim said to reporters while discussing Marcus Rashford’s most recent absence. “We train the way a football player should, in my opinion.
“Every day, every little thing, in life and in training. Therefore, unless things change, I won’t change. The problem is the same for all gamers. If you give it your all, we can use every player.”
“I like it, but we miss a little pace to go, change the game, and swap components, as you can see on the bench today. A player who doesn’t put up his best effort every day will be replaced by keeper coach Jorge Vital. I’m not going to change.”
After a difficult first two months with the club, Amorim joked before his 40th birthday that he feels ten years older. Luck gave United three points at Craven Cottage. In a lacklustre game, Lisandro Martinez’s late deflection winner was the visitors’ only chance on goal.
Amorim has only won four league games since replacing Erik ten Hag in November, and the 20-time top flight champions are currently struggling in mid-table.
“It’s not 40… I’m 50!” Amorim was asked by the BBC if the Fulham victory was the ideal birthday gift.
“50 at Manchester United after two months. Celebrating my 40th birthday here is an honour.
The excitement of winning and scoring three points is essential. Not much has changed for the team. Wins improve us.
