Romelu Lukaku Begins Turkish Challenge

Romelu Lukaku has officially joined Turkish giants Fenerbahce, ending his latest chapter in Italian football and beginning a new challenge in the Turkish Super Lig ahead of the 2026-27 season.

On Wednesday, Fenerbahce announced the Belgian’s move from Napoli. The club hasn’t revealed the precise figure, but according to sources in Italy the amount is about €6m, which is in addition to the bonuses he’ll gain thanks to his performance.

Lukaku addressed his supporters, showing his excitement for becoming a part of one of the most successful teams in Turkey. It is an honour and a privilege, given the great tradition and the many fans of Fenerbahce, the 33-year-old said.

Lukaku has a troubled campaign at Napoli, which is why he is in Istanbul. Injuries marred much of his last season in Italy, even though he was a part of the squad that won the Serie A title in 2024-25. The forward was dealt a difficult fate, making just seven appearances in all competitions, while not being able to assert himself in the attack of the team.

The transfer will provide Fenerbahce with a seasoned striker, who has already shown his form at the top level. Lukaku has played for prestigious European clubs such as Chelsea, Manchester United, Inter Milan and Napoli during his career. He has also been a vital part of the Belgium side, and is one of the highest scoring players in the country.

The acquisition is a sign of Fenerbahce’s ambition to bolster their squad for domestic and European football. It’s an opportunity for Lukaku to get fit, get a regular spot and prove he’s still one of the best in the world. Now fans will be eager to see if the veteran forward can return to his former glory and make an instant impression in Turkish football.
