City was said to have been found guilty of 114 alleged breaches, though there has yet to be a published ruling and no punishment announced. There have already been talk of possible sanctions, such as a big points penalty or sport-related fines.
The Premier League charges stem from complaints that City did not disclose the truth about its financial dealings, including payments to players and coaches, and that it violated the Premier League’s financial sustainability guidelines.
Rodri said ahead of the UEFA Nations League clash against England at Spain that he felt confident in his side’s abilities due to their experience at the competition.
The midfielder said he had many memories of UEFA stripping City of their European qualification in 2020 for breaches of the financial fair-play regulations. The ban was overturned by the successful Court of Arbitration for Sport appeal. City, said Rodri, had told players all along that there was nothing wrong and in the end, the club would be cleared.
The Spain international was with City for six years and was a key figure in one of the club’s most successful eras. He left with 12 big trophies including the winning goal in the 2023 Champions League final.
Rodri also touched on his hopes of winning the Ballon d’Or, saying that his goal is to win the award based on his performance, and not based on being sponsored by a campaign. The 30-year-old emphasized the close ties between individual accomplishments and collective success.
