Erling Haaland broke his duck against Real Madrid with a brace, but Brahim Diaz equalized against his former club with four minutes of normal time left, and Bellingham slid in to score an empty net to leave City stunned at the Etihad Stadium.
The Norwegian scored after Josko Gvardiol chested the ball into his path in this Champions League play-off clash after four years without a goal against Real. After missing several good chances, Kylian Mbappe’s scuffed effort curled into the far corner to equalize for Real on the hour mark.
City were within touching distance of taking a lead into the second leg at the Bernabeu after Haaland’s penalty, but Diaz and Bellingham had other ideas.
