Match of the Day Premier League title races
While Liverpool had not lost in 16 games since losing at the Etihad Stadium on January 3, City had won 13 straight games, including a crucial late-season triumph over Leicester clinched by a long-range goal from Vincent Kompany.
Klopp’s team won 2-0 thanks to two goals from Sadio Mane, but City rallied against Brighton to win 4-1 and win the league.
Due to the introduction of three points for a win in 1981, the final combined total of 195 points earned by the top two teams was the highest ever in an English top-flight season. The 97 points scored by the runner-up, Liverpool, at the time ranked third all-time in Premier League history.
