Manchester United Defeat were the main story as the Premier League giants finished a frustrating pre-season series with a 4-2 defeat to AC Milan in Wroclaw. United took two leads in the game but could not stem the pressure from Milan’s attack and again their weaknesses were exploited. What came out of it poses new questions for the club as they hit the competitive season.
Harry Maguire found the perfect opportunity to give United the perfect start in the second minute. The England defender stood tall to head to the rebound from excellent corners by Bruno Fernandes. It seemed that Michael Carrick’s men were in control in the early stages, but Milan slowly got into the mix.
Italians got an equaliser in the 37th minute with Nigerian winger, Samuel Chukwueze. The United defence had a difficult time with a routine throw-in but Goncalo Ramos was able to separate himself from the defence and open up the space to set-up Chukwueze, who was cool enough to put it past home to make it 1-1.
United would later get the chance to come back in the game when Patrick Dorgu moved them into the lead but Milan would still find gaps in the Red Devils defence. The Serie A side also managed to create good opportunities in close range and exploit them with some close-range goals. Their strong attack eventually took over the game and ensured a resounding 4-2 win.
The loss is a warning to Manchester United as they prepare for the new season. The team looked good forward of their own box at times but defensive organisation was a problem all day. The fact that the team will concede four goals after a two-goal lead will be a big disappointment for the coaching staff.
