Just five days before their League Cup final against Chelsea, Manchester City Women dismissed head coach Gareth Taylor; the club announced Monday.
Although City managing director Charlotte O’Neill appreciated Taylor’s contribution to the club, she claimed results had not been sufficient, with the side fourth in the Women’s Super League (WSL), 12 points behind top Chelsea.
“Manchester City prises itself on competing at the top of the WSL and on its outstanding record of qualifying for European competition,” O’Neill said in a statement.
” regrettably, thus far this season’s output falls short of this excellent calibre.
“We think that a managerial change will revitalise our effort to guarantee qualification for the 2025-26 UEFA Women’s Champions League, given six games of the WSL campaign still to go.
“We want to thank Gareth for all of his work over his several years at City. For this football club, our victories in the FA Cup and League Cup will always be unique events in its history.
“We wish him all the best for the future”.
For the remainder of the season, Nick Cushing will cover the side.
