Arteta’s team has three dramatic draws in a row, and their nerve going into the game is being questioned. They took an early 2-0 lead against Liverpool and West Ham but were held to a 2-2 draw. In contrast, they were down 2-0 and 3-1 against Southampton before scoring twice in the final three minutes to salvage a 3-3 draw. They had previously won seven league games, including three consecutive victories by a three-goal margin, earning them 24 points out of a possible 30. They lost on penalties to Sporting Lisbon in the Europa League, drawing both legs of the last-16 match, but they remain unbeaten in 10 league games, one more than City, and have scored three goals or more in seven of those games.

Arteta says Man City game is not a Premier League title decider, but perfection is now required. Arsenal leads Manchester City by 5 points

Arteta said: “If we win tomorrow night, we haven’t won the league, that’s for sure. It will shift the percentages slightly, but it will still be tricky with five games left after this.

“We wanted to close that gap as much as possible, and we’re toe-to-toe with them. We knew we had to go to the Etihad. Is it going to define the season? The answer is no.

“Mentality plays a considerable part. We want it when I look at how they train and react, the mood in the dressing room, and how they defend each other. The belief is there.

“We’re going to show that again tomorrow night. But we have to deliver in the right moment with the right performance, and it has to be perfect because this last level demands – absolute perfection.”
