Tyrell Malacia, who joined PSV Eindhoven in one of Manchester United’s two last-minute deals, is thrilled to be “finally playing good football again.” He received a note from Bruno Fernandes.
To begin the Erik ten Hag era, Manchester United paid €15 million (£13 million, $16.2 million) to Feyenoord to acquire the Dutch full-back. Although the athlete displayed glimpses of his genius during his debut season, which included 39 games in all competitions, a serious knee injury and post-operative complications ended his time at Old Trafford.
He only played for the Red Devils eight more times after that, all under new boss Ruben Amorim. Patrick Dorgu was set to depart for the Eredivisie champions till the end of the season after United acquired him from Lecce for €35 million (£29.3 million, $36.6 million) over the weekend. Malacia seemed to ruthlessly disparage the Red Devils in his first club interview.
Ruben Curley, a midfielder for United’s Under-21 team, was sold to Stoke, and Malacia signed their first loan deal.
Malacia’s transfer, which was made possible by Jason Wilcox and Omar Berrada, will be appreciated in Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s attempt to reduce United’s expenditures. In addition, United has the option to permanently sign the full-back this summer for €9.6 million (£8 million, $10 million), which would cover his £80,000 weekly contract. In order to recover their investment in the event that the player departs, PSV gave United a 30% sell-on clause.
