Lionel Messi injury scare before World Cup 2026 has been a concern, as the Argentine star was taken off of Inter Miami’s 6-4 victory over Philadelphia Union.
Messi, who had appeared in all of Inter Miami’s previous 13 MLS games this season, sat on the bench late in the game due to a lack of form and discomfort. The move was made just 17 days before the FIFA World Cup 2026, which makes the impact of the move more pronounced for the club and country.
The game was one of the most brawling games of the season. In a game of high scoring and attacking intensity, Inter Miami won 6-4. Luis Suarez had a hat trick to go along with his adroit goal in the 81st minute which proved decisive. German Berterame netted two and Rodrigo De Paul scored in stoppage time on his birthday to make it two.
Messi has been a key player this season for Inter Miami. He has been a factor in the team’s recent winning streak, most recently a four-game winning streak. If the coach and the medical staff are taking precautions, then the first substitution will be made this season.
