La Masia Talent Steps Up vs Rayo

Hector Fort was Barcelona’s unexpected starter against Rayo Vallecano in La Liga on Monday. The 18-year-old right-back got his chance when Barca manager Hansi Flick benched Jules Kounde for being late to a team meeting. Hector Fort capitalized on his rare chance against Rayo Vallecano at Estadi Olimpic Lluis Companys last night.

Fort made his third La Liga start after games against Deportivo Alaves and Espanyol. Fort’s most impressive play was a backheel pass to Lamine Yamal, who missed the goal. After 66 minutes, the Spanish right-back had one opportunity, 25 successful passes out of 29, two recoveries, two interceptions, and 47 touches before being substituted for Kounde.

Fort has had trouble getting minutes this season due to Kounde’s stellar play. The teenager has played 13 matches for Barcelona’s first squad this season, and he has always demonstrated his readiness.

Fort took his moment against Rayo Vallecano and hopes to get more playing time in the coming weeks. The La Masia graduate played admirably on the right side of the backline, both defensively and offensively.
