Leicester’s poor form worsened when West Ham beat Ruud van Nistelrooy’s team 2-0 at the London Stadium. Van Nistelrooy was hoping for a response after his side’s 4-0 loss to Brentford last time out, but they lost their 11th league game in 12 and stayed in the bottom three.
West Ham kept their first gear after beating Arsenal at the weekend. They took the lead after Aaron Cresswell’s strong shot was followed by Mohammed Kudus, who saw Mads Hermansen save well, but Tomas Soucek scored on the second rebound.
They were defeated again before halftime due to poor defense. After Jamie Vardy failed to deal with a corner at the near post, Jarrod Bowen scored from a tight angle after Jannick Vestergaard deflected the ball.
The second half was lackluster like the first.West Ham seemed to be playing for time as the game ended, but Evan Ferguson, on-loan, missed a wonderful chance to score his first Hammers goal.
West Ham moves 16 points above the relegation zone with the win, while Leicester remains in peril. They trail 17th-placed Wolves by five points with 11 games left.
Van Nistelrooy is running out of time quickly.
