Former Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has come out and expressed his support for the supporters and club following the Premier League’s decision on financial charges, leading to the Guardiola City verdict reaction.
City on Tuesday were handed a nine-season ban over serious failures in their financial regulations by an independent commission set up by the Premier League. Additionally, the commission said that the club was liable for three of four complaints involving its lack of cooperation with the investigation.
Manchester City have been charged in the wake of a four-year investigation into claims of financial-rule violations from the 2009-10 to 2017-18 seasons. The club has repeatedly denied any wrongdoing, and it has stated it will appeal the commission’s findings.
The decision included “material errors of law, principle and fact” and the ruling was “unsafe,” City said. The club has until October 2 to submit its appeal. Guardiola, a former manager of Manchester City who won six Premier League championships and a Champions League, responded in turn with a message of support via Instagram.
The former City boss still believes he is on the club’s side in the ongoing legal proceedings, as well as the club, its ownership, senior management, players, staff and supporters.
“I want to let every Manchester City fan in the world know that I am here – more than ever,” Guardiola wrote.
He then mentioned several of the club’s leaders, such as chairman Ferran Soriano, before speaking directly to the club’s supporters.
“Let me be clear, we will do this together,” he continued.
Guardiola ended his message by writing of his love for the fans at City. The Premier League case will now progress to its next phase with Manchester City weighing up its appeal against the independent commission’s decision. That will decide the process of the club filing a challenge to the verdict.
