Nuri Sahin was let go after six months with Borussia Dortmund. The squad’s fourth consecutive loss in all competitions—a 2-1 Champions League defeat to Bologna on Tuesday—prompted the decision. The future of the dysfunctional squad is uncertain as a result of this unforeseen occurrence.
After Edin Terzic stepped down as manager, Sahin took over with high expectations but was ultimately unsuccessful. Dortmund, previous year’s Champions League finalists, fell to tenth place in the Bundesliga after losing all three games in 2025. The loss of Europe’s elite club tournament increased the burden.
Dortmund GM Lars Ricken described the decision as difficult but necessary given the team’s poor performance (one win in nine games). Sahin, a former player and youth product, returned triumphantly to the club in 2024, this time as an assistant coach before taking over as manager. Despite being extended to 2027, his contract expired early.
We will soon learn who will lead Dortmund’s attack against Werder Bremen.
