FIFA Ends Pakistan Suspension After Governance Changes

After successful constitutional amendments, FIFA lifted the ban on the Pakistan Football Federation (PFF) on Sunday.

The supreme football authority lifted the suspension after the PFF accepted its constitutional reforms in an Extraordinary Congress in Lahore last week. Shahid Khokhar, a PFF Normalisation Committee (NC) member, verified the news and thanked FIFA and the AFC for their support of Pakistan football.

Khokhar: “The suspension ended after the amendments were passed in the PFF Congress meeting.”

He said, “The Pakistan Football Federation is grateful to FIFA and AFC for their continued support.” During the discussion, Congress members agreed that embracing the FIFA-proposed amendments would likely ease the ban on Pakistan football.

While announcing the suspension, FIFA required the PFF Constitution given by FIFA and the AFC to be approved before lifting the ban. The announcement stated that the PFF Congress must approve FIFA and the AFC’s PFF Constitution to lift the ban.

The removal of the ban may allow the national football team to play in the AFC Asian Cup Qualifiers next month.

Remember, the AFC warned that the Pakistan men’s national team will be regarded withdrawn from the competition if the suspension is not lifted by March 4, three weeks before the opening match.
