Fever pitch as Napoli on the brink of first Serie A title since 1990 . Italy’s Naples -The only sound in the streets of central Naples was the low murmur of radios and TVs tuned to the same game: Juventus vs. Napoli. However, the gloom was lifted as the game entered stoppage time when Napoli scored to make it 1-0. This caused a loud gasp to be followed by an uproar of cheers and whistles.
The rumbling of people jumping up and down in their homes as Napoli sealed the victory last weekend sounded like a train rolling through the city.
The victory means that the Partenopei will win Serie A for the third time in their history and for the first time since Diego Maradona led them to the Scudetto in 1990 if league leaders Napoli defeat local rivals Salernitana on Sunday and second-placed Lazio lose to Inter Milan the same day.

After the Juventus Napoli supporters flocked to the Capodichino airport to welcome the players back to Naples. Many of them then accompanied the team bus back to the stadium on mopeds and in vehicles, giving them a preview of the celebrations that will take place if Napoli won the league on Sunday.
Due to residents’ anticipation, nearly every street in the city has been covered by flags, banners, and blue and white plastic ribbons that cross between balconies. A few people have painted walls and structures in the team’s colors.
Bread in blue and white is being sold in bakeries, blue drinks are being served in pubs, and there are plenty of pastries with the faces of Napoli players in pastry shops.
Groups of people spontaneously break into Napoli chants all across Naples. The city is tensely anticipating massive festivities.
Several of the city’s largest squares have been designated as celebration points, and some streets have already been closed to non-urgent traffic.
For Napoli supporters, this situation seemed unthinkable just a few years ago. The festivities will represent much more for many Neapolitans than just their favorite football team winning the Cup.
