England manager Sarina Wiegman insists Arsenal loanee Chloe Kelly’s Euro 2025 prospects are still alive after she was left out of the latest Lionesses team to face Portugal and Spain.
The 27-year-old has played only 117 minutes for Manchester City since England’s last international matches in November. On Deadline Day, she sealed a surprise loan switch to WSL rivals Arsenal after being locked out by her parent club. In England’s last round international match with the USA, Kelly played only 15 minutes from the bench due to her lack of club games, according to Wiegman.
“She hasn’t played enough,” Wiegman stated. “She’s transferred clubs, but she barely played last autumn and gained credit. However, she’s played fewer minutes.
Yesterday (Monday) we talked well and she understood. She’s not Euro-focused. She’s fully trained. She should get minutes soon, and we’ll discuss it. Team competitiveness is fierce.” Lotte Wubben-Moy is reinstated after replacing injuries in November, and Ella Toone returns from injury and has six goals for Manchester United since her return.
Nikita Parris receives her first call-up in over two years after scoring six goals in her past eight appearances for Brighton in all competitions.
