Erling Haaland Leads City to Chelsea Demolition

Manchester City moved up to fourth place in the Premier League with a 3-1 victory over Chelsea, captained by Erling Haaland. Despite a shaky start to Abdukodir Khusanov’s debut, City eventually prevailed thanks to a goal from Noni Madueke. Just 22 minutes before halftime, Haaland scored with a combination of muscle and brilliance; Pep Guardiola’s club had an equalizer from Josko Gvardiol.

City have won four of their last five league games, an increase from one in their previous nine games, thanks to the assist from the in-form Phil Foden, set up by the Norwegian.

With just one victory in their last seven games, Chelsea has dropped to sixth place in the Premier League. Since Haaland’s crucial goal was set up by goalie Robert Sanchez, they should think about giving him a promotion.

With this victory, City are one again in the Champions League hunt for next season, just days before they fight for survival. To advance to the playoffs, the English champions must beat Club Brugge on Wednesday, after falling 4-2 at Paris Saint-Germain despite holding a two-goal lead.

“Emotionally, we recovered after conceding the goal,” Guardiola commented. “It´s really, really important for our final Wednesday and for the next games.”

The debuts of Khusanov and Marmoush were made by Guardiola. Within three minutes, Khusanov’s decision had a devastating impact on him.

After the first Uzbek in the Premier League failed to return the ball towards his own goal, Nicolas Jackson set up Madueke for a tap-in. Lucky for Khusanov, he only got a yellow card after chopping down Cole Palmer.

Marmoush has scored more goals in the Bundesliga than anyone else before his departure from Eintracht Frankfurt for £59 million ($72.6 million), save for Harry Kane of Bayern Munich. He thought he had equalized when he scored after Sanchez parried Ilkay Gundogan’s attempt, but was called offside.

“He demonstrated something extraordinary in the first half. Manchester City purchased him for that reason “Haaland on his new striker.

City posed a huge threat from left-back Gvardiol’s relentless attacks. Despite a warning, the Croat charged into the penalty area and poked his left foot just wide of the target, causing Chelsea to miss the mark. His fifth Premier League goal of the season was easy for Gvardiol before halftime.

After Matheus Nunes broke from full-back and Sanchez denied him, Gvardiol scored into an empty net. The second period saw Guardiola trim his losses with Khusanov. Manchester City’s defense seldom had problems once John Stones replaced him.

Marmoush came close to scoring City’s opening goal when he missed the target after receiving Ederson’s long pass from Haaland. Chelsea made the same error again. Erling Haaland outmuscled Trevoh Chalobah and chipped Sanchez, who had charged out of his goal and ended up in no man’s land, after another Ederson clearance.

“I think the second goal changed the mood,” stated Maresca. “We trust Robert for sure but in the same moment he is aware that he is making mistakes.”

Despite Manchester City’s problems, Haaland has been scoring, bringing his season total to 24, with six in the previous six games.

His layoff set up Foden to score his sixth goal in four league games for the third goal.
