EPL: Go back to basics – Rio Ferdinand blasts two Liverpool stars. Rio Ferdinand, a former player for Manchester United, has criticized Trent Alexander-Arnold and Virgil van Dijk of Liverpool, claiming that they need to get back to their fundamentals.
Ferdinand made this statement following Sunday’s 2-2 Premier League match between Liverpool and Arsenal at Anfield.
Both Van Dijk and Alexander-Arnold, according to the former England defender, are only pale imitations of their previous selves this year.
“Liverpool is protecting… I’m not sure what I’m currently viewing! I’m unable to comprehend it. During the past few years, Van Dijk has undoubtedly been the best defense in the world. In his Vibe with FIVE YouTube show, Ferdinand remarked, “He appears to be a shadow of himself.

He’s obviously lost his shape. After the game, he said on social media that both individually and as a team, Liverpool had lost their form and were not performing as they usually did. And that’s okay; it’s just. He and Trent [Alexander-Arnold] must simply return to the fundamentals. Just going back to the fundamentals is how you break out of a rut like that. I saw in a tweet by Jamie Carragher that Van Dijk was superior to Vidic. I have no idea why something was uttered, or for what other reason.
“I don’t understand why Vidic’s name was included. It’s crazy,” he continued.
“He’s lost form, obviously. He said in a [social media] post after the game that personally and collectively [Liverpool] have lost form, not playing the way they normally would. And that is fine, that is fair.
