Lionel Messi lawsuit has arisen, when a Miami-based music company filed a legal claim to the tune of 7 million dollars against the Argentine superstar and the Argentine Football Association over an alleged breach of contract due to a missed promotional friendly match in Florida. On court filings, Vid Music Group states that it had signed an agreement with Lionel Messi and the Argentine Football Association in which Messi agreed to take part in a high-profile friendly event.
The company claims that the fact that Messi did not play the match, amounts to both fraud and breach of contract, which resulted in financial losses and a damaged reputation. It has now been sued in the Miami-Dade circuit court and is seeking damages amounting to 7 million. The case underscores the commercial value that is placed on world football players such as Messi where appearances, endorsement, and participation in events are all of a financial importance.
Lionel Messi is currently one of the most sellable players in the global sports arena and whenever he features in a promotion event, it usually leads to huge numbers of tickets sold and sponsors interacting. Due to this fact, any conflict connected with contractual duties can develop in a large legal and business problem rather rapidly. Although there are no full details of the agreement that was publicly disclosed, Vid Music Group claims that the agreement was valid and that the failure of Messi to appear disrupted scheduled promotions that were related to the event.
At this point both Messi and the Argentine Football Association are yet to release a detailed public statement on allegations. The case will attract much attention since Messi has a worldwide image and the growing blurring of sport, entertainment, and commercial associations.Â
