The Bundesliga midfield ace is available for an absolute bargain transfer fee. According to rumors, Newcastle United is carefully monitoring the position of a midfielder from the Bundesliga who is expected to switch teams in the summer.
Given that Newcastle is now third in the Premier League standings, advancing to the European stage this season appears to be a possibility. They will therefore be seeking to make a few minor adjustments to their team for the upcoming campaign.
According to the German edition of Sky Sports, Kerem Demirbay of Bayer Leverkusen is one player who has caught their attention.
Demirbay is “expected” to leave Bayer Leverkusen at the end of the season as his contract with the team is approaching its final year.
Newcastle are reportedly “closely monitoring” him in light of this, according to Sky Germany. He is 29 years old and feels ready for the “next step” in his career that they might provide.

Newcastle might just need to fork over $4-$5 million to bring Demirbay aboard. He would therefore cost somewhere between £3.5 million and £4.4 million.
Even with Financial Fair Play considerations, that feels like pocket change for a team with Newcastle’s financial support.
Newcastle is not the only team that has recently scouted Bayer Leverkusen’s no. 10 in the Bundesliga. He received interest from Hertha Berlin in the Bundesliga and Fiorentina in Serie A during the January transfer window.
Now, Demirbay’s future may involve a move to the Premier League. After spending his whole professional career up until this point in Germany, it would be his first taste of English football.
Newcastle keeping a keen eye on the talent at Bayer Leverkusen
Ad Demirbay joined Bayer Leverkusen from Hoffenheim in 2019 and has been a member of the team ever since. He has played for the club 142 times since then, more than he ever did for any of his prior teams.
Along the process, Demirbay has contributed 30 assists and 14 goals. He has made 29 appearances in all competitions this season, scoring four goals and dishing out three assists.
It’s interesting to note that he’s not the only Bayer Leverkusen player recently associated with Newcastle. For example, the Magpies continue to be interested in winger Moussa Diaby and defender Piero Hincapie.
It’s possible that the two clubs may communicate frequently in the months to come, but it’s still unclear how many of those players will really join St. James’ Park.
This year, Bayer Leverkusen has competed in both the Champions League and the Europa League. Consequently, some of those players would be useful in whatever competition Newcastle qualifies for.
