Bruno Guimaraes Seals Key Win for Newcastle

Newcastle moved level on points with fifth-placed Manchester City in the Premier League after beating West Ham 1-0 away from home to boost their Champions League aspirations.

Newcastle have gained confidence ahead of Sunday’s Carabao Cup final against Liverpool after losing defence duo Sven Botman and Lewis Hall to injury and Anthony Gordon to suspension. In the second half, Bruno Guimaraes scored the winning goal for Newcastle after latching on to Harvey Barnes’ cross (64). However, West Ham argued that the goal should have been ruled out because Alexander Isak appeared to push Max Kilman from an offside position when the ball was delivered.

We were frustrated by their goal “Potter stated afterward. “It seems clear. Two hands on the defender’s back. It pushes. Isak didn’t celebrate, thinking it was a shove.”
West Ham boss Graham Potter was left regretting his team’s missed chances from earlier in the game, with Tomas Soucek sending his close-range effort over the bar and Mohammed Kudus wasting his chance when through on goal.

Barnes nearly gave the Magpies the lead before halftime, but Hammers custodian Alphonse Areola, a standout, denied him twice.
