Benni McCarthy praises Cristiano Ronaldo and offers his one cause for eternal gratitude. The former Manchester United coach who worked with CR7 called him the “greatest of all times” and chastised the club’s “youngsters” for not taking advantage of “his regime, his methods, and his approach to staying as sharp and in shape as he is.”
He told Ladbrokes, “You know what?” at Gaffer of Accas’ launch. Working with Cristiano Ronaldo was great. It was great since he knows football well. I think he was the greatest player ever, but others disagree.”
“It was genuinely so nice to see the drive and determination he still had at his age, especially compared to the younger players around him,” he said.
He said the five-time Ballon d’Or winner always “trained well” and supported him with young players, saying, “Take note because Benni knows what he’s talking about.”
McCarthy said, “I’ll forever be grateful for him for backing me in that sense because it got all the younger players on board. He gave his support as we did finishing drills and worked on depth in front of goal in training. I gained his approval for our work.”
Ronaldo worked with McCarthy during his second spell (2021-2022) at Manchester United, after six years from 2003 to 2009.
