Bayern Munich win was emphatic on Thursday as the six-time European champions swept aside Bodo-Glimt 5-0 at home, with Jamal Musiala marking his return to the starting XI with the opening goal.
Michael Olise also played a pivotal role in Bayern’s strong showing, helping the team to score twice while Vincent Kompany’s side continued their impressive run of form in the first leg of Champions League games. Harry Kane and Alphonso Davies finished off the job, as Bayern dominated the Norwegian visitors after the interval.
Musiala’s goal was especially important as the Germany international made a comeback after a rocky spell on the sidelines. He had been sidelined for two games following his admission that he had a neurological disorder which made him collapse in two Bayern pre-season friendlies. After scoring the goal, the midfielder was greeted by his teammates who came forward to welcome him back and highlight his value to the team.
Bayern will extend their impressive streak of Champions League first game wins to 24, dating back to 2002. Bodo-Glimt, who stunned European football last season by making it to the Champions League last 16, had some stiffness to start with, but were able to buzkill Bayern at various junctures. The visitors, however, had a hard time keeping the German giants at bay in the second half.
Three minutes from the end of time, they had yet more trouble of their own to face, as Odin Bjortuft was booked for a straight red card for a last-man foul. Kompany made three changes from the XI he fielded on Saturday, and added Musiala, Kane and Olise. It came as a welcome answer to the home defeat and Musiala’s presence in the starting eleven was one added advantage as Bayern continues its European campaign.
