Bayern Munich moved a step closer to the Bundesliga

Bayern Munich moved a step closer to the Bundesliga title by cruising past Schalke at Allianz Arena, but Borussia Dortmund beat Borussia Monchengladbach to keep up the pressure on the leaders.

Before Joshua Kimmich extended the hosts’ advantage with a penalty, Thomas Muller scored the game’s first goal.

After the break, Serge Gnabry scored twice in 15 minutes, while Mathys Tel and Noussair Mazraoui added some flourish.

Bayern leads Dortmund, who is in second place, by one point with two games left.

Muller, a seasoned forward who had been reinstated to the starting lineup, opened the score with his first goal in eight appearances with a composed finish. Kimmich then converted from the penalty spot after Jamal Musiala was hauled down in the area.

Gnabry scored for the third game in a row by latching onto Joao Cancelo’s ball and slamming in his first at the near post. He then doubled his total immediately after.

In the fifth minute, Donyell Malen scored the game’s first goal, and from the penalty spot, Jude Bellingham added a second.

At Signal Iduna Park, Sebastien Haller scored twice in the span of 12 minutes to give the home team a four-goal lead at halftime.

Lars Stindl and Ramy Bensebaini both scored late goals to cut the Dortmund lead, but Giovanni Reyna’s fifth goal in extra time sealed the victory.
